Sketches
What follows is a collection of sketches and drawings taken from my court work and various doodlings in my sketchbooks.

I am probably best known in Adelaide for being one of the court sketch artists that work for the media. I work for the TV stations (channels 2, 7, 9, 10) and very occasionally for The Advertiser.

It is still illegal to take photographs or film inside a court room, hence the need for a sketch artist. I have seen and drawn many of Adelaide’s big, notorious and even controversial cases, including Von Einem, Henry Keogh, the War Crimes Hearing and the Snowtown “Bodies in the Barrel” case.

As a general rule, I sketch with a waterproof felt tip black pen and use watercolour pencils to colour in.

Dr Paul Babie, Associate Dean of Law (Research) School of Law at the University of Adelaide commissioned this piece for his father Theodore Babie. It depicts a famous murder trial in Canada, the Workman and Huculak trial, in which Theodore Babie acted as one of the defence lawyers for Huculak. The two defendants are depicted in the foreground, although in reality the dock would be facing the judge and would afford no view of the defendants.
